A new clinic has just been added: Confidence Building for dressage horses, hosted at Fairoak Grange dressage yard and competition centre.
A frequently asked question is "what is the difference between the Horse Agility and the Confidence for Dressage horses?".
Both clinics use the same techniques for building horses' confidence and horse agility may be attended for general confidence building ("de-spooking"), even if agility is not a competition sport that you plan to go into. Horses that do dressage do attend horse agility, either to help them to become more confident and therefore less likely to spook in dressage, or for a change of scene and a bit of fun :-) However, the horse agility arena is set up with alot of obstacles that may be considered "spooky" and that could be too much in one go for some horses. Horse Agility is purely In Hand (although for ridden obstacles, Equagility (ridden horse agility) is also offered).
Confidence Building for dressage horses is aimed at dressage horses that are "spooky" with the arena, white boards, markers, judges car, unsettled in unfamiliar environments etc. The arena set up will mimic a dressage arena and that differentiates it from the horse agility set up. Confidence Building for dressage horses may be part ridden and part groundwork.
The format of Confidence Building for dressage horses is a small group sessions of 1.5 hours. To learn and then apply techniques that are effective in building horses' confidence in things or situations that are common to dressage training and competition, as well as increasing trust between horse and handler, so that the horse can take more confidence from the rider.
If your horse is not spooky or only minimally spooky in a dressage arena / dressage competition, then horse agility could be the better class to enter. If unsure or if further questions, please email via the contact form.
