Of course it helped that the weather was kind to us, more late August than late September, should have packed the factor 15! But the event itself was fun and friendly, extremely well organised, and very supportive and welcoming even for complete first timers.
There were 3 classes: 1. never done any Trec competition before, lots of help and encouragement from the lovely judges and helpers; 2. only done the TVRC Fun Trec before; 3. Open class.
There were seasoned competitors who entered and enjoyed the open class, but don't expect it to be up to Level 2 standard, that really wasn't the point of the day. The aim was to be fun, friendly and welcoming to complete newcomers and relative novices to the sport and the event achieved that aim 100% (and more :-) Everything was explained, the atmosphere was friendly, chatty and relaxed, the obstacle judges gave everyone a very fair chance to get at least some points and nobody got lost on the orienteering, which for the novices was all in pairs.
If you want to try your first Trec competition, this was the lovely, warm, shallow end of the pool :-) And if even that is too scary, then, as well as the training clinics, offers of help with the next competition day will always be warmly welcomed :-)
