Horse Agility is a growing equestrian discipline and sport, with monthly competitions run under the rules of The International Horse Agility Club.
Horse Agility was inspired by the popular sport of Dog Agility. Horse Agility competitions comprise of equine (horse, pony, donkey, mule) and handler completing a set course of 10 obstacles, with time limits imposed at the higher levels of competition. Horse Agility is scored, a little bit like dressage, with a test sheet, where a maximum of 10 points is awarded for each of the 10 obstacles. Five of the available points are awarded on correct technical completion of the obstacle and the other 5 points are awarded on the relationship between the equine and its handler. Horse Agility is the only equestrian discipline where competitions are scored partly on the relationship the handler has with his/ her equine.
With the exception of Equagility, Horse Agility is dedicated to those people who want to have fun with and also compete their equine from the ground. This can be either On Line, using a headcollar and a lead rope that is at least 12 feet long; or it can be at Liberty, where the equine is directed around the obstacles using only the handler's voice and/ or body language. For the very adventurous, there is even Wild Horse Agility, no, not Horse Agility with Wild Horses! but Horse Agility in a natural landscape setting, rather than inside an arena.
The Horse Agility Club is an international organisation with members in countries across Europe, North America, Canada and Australasia; it promotes the competitive side of Horse Agility by standardising the rules of competition.
